  • You have a wide choice of good care providers
  • If you go to a contracted care provider, you don't have to pay in advance
  • Are you going to a care provider without a contract with Menzis? Then the costs will be covered 100%, except for mental health. Then you will receive reimbursement up to 75% of the bill up to a maximum of 75% of the amount that Menzis has contracted on average for that treatment. For nursing an care you will receive reimbursement up to 85% of the bill up to a maximum of 85%.

Coverage Basic insurance 2026

The Dutch government determines the coverage from the Basic health insurance. This includes, among other things: 

  • General practitioner care
  • Medicines
  • Treatment and stay in the hospital 
  • Maternity and obstetric care
  • Dental care up to the age of 18

Differences Basic insurances

  • Menzis Basis Voordelig and Menzis Basis are natura policies, which means that care from a contracted care provider is covered. 
  • Menzis Basis Vrij is a combination insurance, which means you can choose the care provider that suits you best. Even if the care provider does not have a contract with Menzis. Exceptions are mental healthcare providers (GGZ) and nursing and care providers (Wijkverpleging).
  • If you choose the care of non-contracted providers of “GGZ” or “Wijkverpleging”, 75% of your costs are covered, with a maximum of 75% of the amount Menzis covers in average for that treament.
  • If you choose the care of non-contracted providers of “Wijkverpleging”, 85% of your costs are covered, with a maximum of 85% of the amount Menzis covers in average for that treament. 
  • The coverage for non-contracted care varies.
  • You can voluntarily increase your deductible by € 100, € 200, € 300, € 400 or € 500. With Menzis Basis Voordelig this is only possible with € 500. The higher your deductible, the more discount you get on your premium.
